Pac-12 rewards Scott with extension

Walnut Creek, CA (Sports Network) - The Pac-12 Conference's Board of Directors has unanimously extended the contract of commissioner Larry Scott through 2016.

Financial terms were not disclosed, but the deal includes options for additional years.

Scott became the league's sixth commissioner on July 1, 2009 and has been the architect of numerous changes.

The league expanded for the first time since 1978, going from 10 teams to 12 with the additions of Utah and Colorado for the 2011-12 academic year. Scott also helped secure landmark television contracts with FOX and ESPN, while also helping create the Pac-12 Network.

"My fellow board members and I are delighted to have reached a long-term agreement with the commissioner to continue his excellent work on behalf of the Pac-12," said Ed Ray, president of Oregon State and chairman of the Pac-12 Board. "We are on the brink of a period of extraordinary accomplishment and excellence throughout the Pac-12 and Larry's continued leadership and vision for the conference are critical elements in realizing that potential."

Before joining the league, Scott spent six years as CEO of the Women's Tennis Association and helped the organization generate unprecedented growth and popularity.
