Vonn optimistic ahead of Sochi Games despite latest knee problems

Sat 21st, December 2013

Val d'Isere, France (SportsNetwork.com) - Despite another scary run during the World Cup downhill in Val d'Isere, Lindsey Vonn remains confident that her latest knee trouble will not stop her from competing at the Sochi Games in February.

Vonn seemed to suffer a setback Saturday when she lost her balance and her left ski went up in the air, putting all her weight on her surgically repaired right knee as she skied off course.

The 29-year-old Vonn tore the ACL and MCL in her right knee in February during a crash at the FIS Alpine World Ski Championships in Austria. The American re- injured her right knee straining it and partially tearing her right ACL after a crash during training in November.

"I didn't hurt myself more than I'm already hurt," Vonn said on Saturday. "It was a small compression, and it was fully loaded on the right ski and my knee just completely gave out. I tried to pressure the ski again and it gave out again. I had no chance of making that gate, unfortunately."

Vonn, who won the women's downhill at the 2010 Vancouver Olympics and took bronze in the Super-G, plans to take one or two weeks off with her main goal still Sochi.
