MISL ceases operations, prepares for new indoor soccer league

Westport, CT (Sports Network) - The Management Committee of the Major Indoor Soccer League (MISL) announced the league has ceased operations, effective May 31, it was announced on Monday.

"We are considering structural changes that will bring us greater efficiencies, while also allowing long term growth and expansion of the league," Detroit Ignition owner John Hantz said.

The MISL Management Committee has begun formal transition planning and restructuring as they consider moves, which they believe will help lower costs and attract additional owner/operators. A decision on the future structure of the league will be forthcoming in the next couple of weeks.

"In order to clean up some of the stock ownership from previous owners, we decided to resolve the current league and form a new league," Baltimore Blast owner Ed Hale said. "The Baltimore Blast will play next season. The number of teams and the number of games will be determined very soon."

The MISL featured indoor soccer players from 24 countries around the world. The nine MISL clubs that competed in the 2007-2008 season were the Baltimore Blast, California Cougars, Chicago Storm, Detroit Ignition, Milwaukee Wave, Philadelphia KiXX, La Raza de Monterrey, New Jersey Ironmen and the Orlando Sharks.
