New York (5-6-6) at San Jose (3-9-5), 3 p.m.
Santa Clara, CA (Sports Network) - When the New York Red Bulls and San Jose Earthquakes square off at San Jose on Sunday, it will be a battle of the last place teams in their respective conferences.
San Jose, at 3-9-5, is five points deep in the Western basement, and 10 points behind the leaders, Real Salt Lake.
New York is 5-6-6, but in the much stronger Eastern table, is tied with Kansas City with 21 points for last place.
Both teams are coming off draws in their last Major League Soccer fixtures, with the Red Bulls giving up a late equalizer to Los Angeles at Giants Stadium and the 'Quakes battling to a scoreless draw at Toronto.
"It's a very disappointed locker room," New York coach Juan Carlos Osorio said after the draw. "I think we created enough chances to win the game, but unfortunately that wasn't the case. I'm optimistic because there was good play at times but we need to keep improving. Only time will tell if it's OK to get one point out of a game we should have won."
"Yes, you're exactly right we got a point on the road, we were under pressure and kinda of held our own, got a point and that's good," San Jose assistant coach Ian Russell. "[Toronto] been good all year, we're hard to score against we have been all year but we just have a hard time scoring and hopefully we'll fix that. We've got some new players so it's got to help."
One of the new players that should add to the San Jose attack is English forward Darren Huckerby. The former EPL striker was acquired last week, and has had limited training in recent months, meaning he is far from top form.
"Tough, it was tough. Three days training in two months you know it's very hard to get into the game but like I say the first one's out of the way now and I'm looking forward to getting back and start playing a few home games and we'll see how it goes," Huckerby said of his limited minutes vs. Toronto.
The Red Bulls feature a revamped offense as well, with new signing Jorge Rojas adding two assists in the L.A. draw.
"Jorge had a lot of quality balls and was able to break the team down," Osorio said. "Unfortunately, and Jorge will be the first to agree with this, he had the chances come to him too and couldn't finish them. I'm sure though Jorge will score valuable goals for us in the future."
