MLS Preview from The Sports Network

Toronto (6-6-4) at Real Salt Lake (6-6-6)

Salt Lake City, UT (Sports Network) - Real Salt Lake is in uncharted territory.

Entering the second half of the season, the perennial bottom-feeders are sitting atop Major League Soccer's Western Conference table with a devilishly good 6-6-6 record.

RSL is currently in a pretty good spot and will look to improve its chances at its first playoff berth in franchise history when it hosts Toronto FC on Monday. Toronto is in a tough spot, looking to gain valuable points at Rice- Eccles Stadium, where RSL is 5-0-5 this season.

RSL is also coming off a rare result on the road - a scoreless draw at Chicago - meaning confidence is high at the moment.

"We played a fantastic first half and in the second half we did what we had to do," RSL coach Jason Kreis said of the draw. "I think it was a just result."

"It's a game we could have won on the road," RSL goalkeeper Nick Rimando said. "We have had problems late in games allowing goals in. They had their chances but we turned them away, which gave us the point."

Toronto (6-6-4), which is the only other MLS team without a loss at home, will take its pitiful 1-6-0 road record into Rice-Eccles with an emphasis on more production from its strikers.

"I think it's blatantly obvious what we need to do," Toronto coach John Carver said after his team's most recent league fixture, a scoreless draw vs. San Jose. "We don't need one striker, we need two strikers and we need somebody to put the ball in the back of the net. I feel Amado [Guevara] can play in a 4-4-2 with Carl Robinson, and if we get two strikers in, we can move on to the next step."

Danny Dichio is the club's best striker, but he has been out for extended time with a concussion. He will also miss Monday's contest.

Despite the lack of offensive production recently, Carver is optimistic things will turn around soon for his club.

"What I said to them was, 'you can't give any more than you've given,'" he said. "They've given every ounce in there. We've had a lot of football recently and they've given all they've got. They created chances, they've not put the chances away. Eventually that will come. If you keep consistent with things and believing in what you're doing, eventually the ball will go in the back of the net."
