Final Score: Real Salt Lake 3 - Houston 4
Houston, TX (Sports Network) - The past 10 games, Real Salt Lake had given up just four goals, which was good enough to propel the Salt Lake City club into first place in Major League Soccer's Western Conference.
But on Saturday night at two-time defending MLS Cup champion Houston, RSL gave up four first half goals in a 4-3 loss that saw the club give up its perch at the top of the table to the Dynamo.
The game saw seven different goal scorers and two lead changes, as well six first-half goals.
Yura Movsisyan got things going early, putting the visitors up 1-0 just three minutes into the game with his first goal of the season when took a pass behind the defense and slotted shot into far post side netting. Robbie Findley collected his third assist of the season on the play.
Houston's Brian Mullan equalized just 13 minutes later for his second goal of the season. Winger Brad Davis started the play with a diagonal ball from the left side to Mullan, who broke in on goal alone. After he deked past RSL goalkeeper Nick Rimando, Mullan fired into the net to tie the game at one.
Less than 10 minutes later RSL had the lead back, however. Javier Morales capitalized on a mistake by Houston defender Bobby Boswell by knocking in a loose ball after the defender's attempted clearance hit a teammate in the back and deflected back into the box.
Less than five minutes later the Dynamo equalized again. This time it was Brian Ching, who scored his ninth goal of the season on a left-footed laser to the far post. Mullan and Craig Waibel got assists on the play.
Ricardo Clark gave Houston it's first lead 10 minutes before the first-half break when he collected the ball in the offensive third and fired a 35-yard bomb into the far post corner. Clark's first of the season was the game winner.
Nate Jaqua scored his first goal since signing with the Dynamo a few weeks ago to make it 4-2 minutes before the break. Defender Wade Barrett started the buildup by playing a long ball into the box to Ching, who took a touch and laid back to Jaqua, who fired home.
Kenny Deuchar added his third goal of the season to pull RSL within a goal with 10 minutes to play, but it was too little too late as RSL dropped its seventh game of the season.
RSL (7-7-6) will aim to rebound when it travels to take on the league-leading Columbus Crew next Saturday while Houston (7-4-8) hosts Chivas USA on Wednesday in its next league fixture.
