Carson, CA (Sports Network) - Omar Cummings scored the game's only goal as the Colorado Rapids earned a 1-0 victory at Chivas USA at the Home Depot Center in Major League Soccer action on Friday night.

The match, which lacked creativity by either side, was obviously a season opener, being that there was little of anything shown by the Western Conference clubs.

Chivas USA's best chance came in the first 45 minutes when striker Maykel Galindo streaked past defender Kosuke Kimura toward the Rapids' goal. But after he was pushed out wide by an onrushing Marvell Wynne, Galindo's chance was easily knocked out-of-bounds by goalkeeper Matt Pickens.

The Rapids scored the game's only goal on their first shot, just over 10 minutes after the break, when Cummings, who tied for the MLS lead with 12 assists last season, ran onto a loose ball in the offensive third. Cummings used quick feet turn on the ball and fire off the right post, past goalkeeper Dan Kennedy, one touch.
