Santa Clara, CA (Sports Network) - Defending Major League Soccer champions Real Salt Lake showed it is poised to take on any challenger in 2010 with a dominating 3-0 victory over the San Jose Earthquakes at Buck Shaw Stadium on Saturday night, matching the biggest away victory in team history

Javier Morales had two goals and an assist to lead his club to the season opening victory, his first multi-goal game for RSL .

The Argentine midfielder got things started inside 15 minutes when he laced a 30-yard bomb into the far-post side-netting to make it 1-0 RSL.

RSL goalkeeper Nick Rimando made a big save on 'Quakes forward Ryan Johnson five minutes later on a breakaway before Morales teamed up with Fabian Espindola to double the visitor's lead.

Morales collected the ball in the midfield and skipped a pass through the San Jose defense to a breaking Espindola, who then chipped a shot over goalkeeper Joe Cannon to make it 2-0.

Morales scored his second goal of the game in the 52nd minute after his team earned a free kick just outside the penalty area. San Jose defender Chris Leitch pulled down Espindola, breaking in behind him, then earned the foul and a red card for his efforts. Morales made him pay by curling a perfect shot into the far-post top-corner to make it 3-0.

San Jose had a couple late chances, with Arturo Alvarez driving a shot off the post, and Rimando scooping up a Johnson shot from close range.
