Buenos Aires, Argentina (Sports Network) - Uruguayan Jorge da Silva has been named new manager of Banfield, just days after he surprisingly stepped down as coach of Godoy Cruz.
Da Silva, 50, signed a one-year contract to replace former manager Ricardo La Volpe, who guided Banfield to last place in the recently-completed Apertura.
Banfield won just three matches, and accumulated just 11 points last season.
Da Silva led Godoy Cruz to a berth in the Copa Libertadores, but stepped down after the season. A Uruguay international from 1982-93, he has also coached at Saudi Arabia's Al-Nassr and Uruguay's Defensor.
