The Hague, Netherlands (Sports Network) - Toby Alderweireld's last-minute goal helped Ajax claim a vital 1-0 win over Den Haag at Het Zuiderpark on Sunday.
The win keeps Ajax within four points of leaders Twente with four games remaining, but the goal only arrived after Den Haag goalkeeper Barry Ditewig was sent off in the 75th minute due to a controversial call.
Ditewig was only between the posts because of an injury to starting keeper Robert Zwinkels, and he saw red after Ajax midfielder Demy de Zeeuw tumbled into the keeper after missing the net with a shot.
De Zeeuw took his time in getting off of Zwinkels, and the keeper shoved the Ajax man, earning himself a red card.
This forced emergency goalkeeper Ricky van den Bergh into action, and he could not keep out Alderweireld's shot from the top of the box after a failed clearance.
PSV Eindhoven stayed within a point of Ajax as they too got a late goal against Willem II to win 1-0 on Sunday.
Willem II's Jan-Arie van der Heijden was ruled to have fouled PSV's Balazs Dzsudzsak in front of goal, allowing the Hungary international to hit the bottom left corner of the net from the penalty spot with nine minutes to play.
Samuel Armenteros scored two goals in the last 10 minutes as Heracles downed NEC, 2-0, while Feyenoord was held to a 0-0 draw by NAC.
