Twente holds off Heerenveen

Enschede, Netherlands (Sports Network) - Twente scored two goals in the last 20 minutes to beat Heerenveen, 2-0, on Saturday at Arke Stadion, moving the club closer to its first ever Eredivisie title.

Chiek Tiote gave Twente the lead in the 70th minute, and Luuk de Jong secured all three points in stoppage time to lift the home side seven points above second-placed Ajax, which hosts Venlo on Sunday.

Heerenveen goalkeeper Henk Timmer did well to keep his side level at halftime as he first parried Blaise Nkufo's effort from 10 yards before watching Wout Brama roll his shot inches wide of the post.

Nkufo had another effort saved by Timmer, and Heereveen almost took the lead in the 58th minute when Roy Beerens smashed a shot against the crossbar.

However, the hosts eventually found the net 20 minutes from time as Nkufo's through-ball allowed Tiote to slot his shot inside the far post from the left.

Nkufo had a hand in the second goal as well when he found De Jong at the top of the box for a second goal that secured the win.

Donny Gorter's first-half penalty kick was enough to give NAC a 1-0 win over Roda, AZ Alkmaar was held to a 0-0 draw by NEC, and Sparta finished 1-1 with Heracles.
