Alkmaar, Netherlands (Sports Network) - AZ Alkmaar used an eighth-minute own goal from Peter Wisgerhof to top Twente 1-0 on Tuesday, handing the Eredivisie leaders just their second loss of the season and leaving Ajax hope of rallying for the title.
Twente leads second-place Ajax by four points, but the Amsterdam club plays at Willem II on Wednesday with an opportunity to climb within one point entering the last two matches of the season.
Ajax holds a considerable edge in goal differential, with an incredible margin of plus-77. Ajax is just four goals shy of 100 for the season, and has allowed just 19.
Twente hosts Feyenoord on Sunday, and closes the season at NAC on May 2. Ajax visits Heracles on Sunday, and visits Feyenoord on May 2 to close the season.
AZ, which won the league title last season, moved into fourth place and the second of two guaranteed Europa League berths from Holland's top division.
Heracles cemented RKC Waalwijk's relegation with a 4-1 win Tuesday, while NAC tied Vitesse 1-1. Everton scored twice in Heracles' win, while Edwin De Graaf scored in the 89th to help NAC split the points.
