Jol admits Suarez decision

Amsterdam, Netherlands (Sports Network) - Ajax head coach Martin Jol has confirmed that his club's star Uruguayan striker, Luis Suarez, rejected the chance to join Tottenham in the January transfer window.

The 23-year-old South American has been in sparkling form for the Dutch giants this season and has attracted interest from a number of top clubs across Europe.

Jol told Sky Sports News: "They took an interest in our winter break and I said then Luis Suarez wanted to stay at Ajax, because he promised me that he would stay for at least another year.

"Nothing to do with Tottenham or another club, he wanted to stay."
