Twente claims first ever Dutch title

Breda, Netherlands (Sports Network) - A 2-0 win at 10-man NAC on Sunday was enough for Twente to claim its first Eredivisie title in the club's 45-year history.

Bryan Ruiz and Miroslav Stoch provided the goals for Steve McClaren's side, but both came after NAC's Csaba Feher had been sent off.

Feher received his red card just 22 minutes into the match for a terrible tackle on Theo Janssen, and Ruiz took advantage just one minute later to give his team a lead that never looked to be in danger.

Stoch then sealed the win with a goal 15 minutes from time, which leaves Twente one point ahead of Ajax at the final whistle.

The Amsterdam side finished its campaign with a 4-1 win over NEC as Luis Suarez scored twice, while PSV Eindhoven has finished third after a 1-1 draw with AZ Alkmaar, which drops the team from fourth to fifth place.

That slip could be significant because it allowed Feyenoord to jump into fourth, giving them a spot in the Europa League for next season. Roy Makaay scored a hat trick in the club's 6-2 win over Heerenveen, while AZ Alkmaar will now have a qualification playoff to survive if they are to reach European competition.

Heracles secured a 4-2 win over Den Haag, while Groningen's 3-1 victory against Sparta also puts the club in the Europa League playoff hunt.

RKC Waalwijk had already been relegated before their 2-1 defeat to Venlo, while Willem II and Sparta could be joining them as both sides will take part in relegation playoffs.

Willem II lost 3-2 to Roda and Vitesse finished the season with a 2-2 draw against Utrecht as Onur Kaya and Santi Kolk scored in the final 30 minutes to claim a point.
