West Brom signs Mallorca midfielder Valero

West Bromwich, England (Sports Network) - West Bromwich Albion have completed the club record $8.7million signing of Mallorca midfielder Borja Valero.

The 23-year-old Spaniard has agreed a four-year contract at The Hawthorns and is the ninth summer signing made by Baggies boss Tony Mowbray.

Albion's previous record transfer fee was the $6.5 million they paid to land Robert Earnshaw from Cardiff City four years ago.

The Baggies had been linked with the attacking midfielder throughout the summer and Valero further impressed Mowbray during a pre-season friendly against his side earlier this month.

Valero came through the ranks at Real Madrid before joining the Balearic club last summer.

"From a footballing point of view, he possesses many of the attributes I like in a player," Mowbray told the club's official website.

"He has got great technical ability and weight of pass, has an excellent work- rate and an eye for a goal."
