London, England (Sports Network) - Tottenham has fought off competition from West Ham to sign Monaco striker Eidur Gudjohnsen on loan until the end of the season.
The 31-year-old former Chelsea and Barcelona forward had a medical at Upton Park only to have a late change of heart when he learned of Spurs' interest.
Boss Harry Redknapp was quoted as saying: "The chairman has probably done a deal for Eider. We spoke to him the other day. We've taken him on loan until the end of the season to see how it goes."
However, the Iceland international's U-turn has failed to impress new Hammers co-owner David Sullivan, who said: "We thought we had a deal and the player even had a medical. We then heard that Tottenham were trying to speak to the player.
"I can't say I'm happy about it but I believe in karma and what goes around, comes around."
Gudjohnsen first made his name in England with Bolton Wanderers, scoring 18 goals in 55 league appearances for the Trotters between 1998-2000.
He moved to Chelsea in a $8.1 million deal almost a decade ago and scored 54 goals in almost 200 Premier League games for the club before being sold to Barcelona for 8million in June 2006.
After three seasons at the Camp Nou he joined Monaco last summer.
