Rennes doubles up Bordeaux

Rennes, France (Sports Network) - Sylvain Marveaux scored his eighth goal of the season in the fourth minute, sparking Rennes to a three-goal cushion and a 4-2 win over Ligue 1 leader Bordeaux on Saturday.

Jimmy Briand and Ismael Bangoura followed Marveaux's early strike for Rennes, which weathered consecutive goals from Bordeaux midway through the second half before Asamaoh's put the match away with a 78th-minute strike.

Rennes won for the 10th time, and sent Bordeaux to just its fifth loss as its lead over second-place Montpellier closed to three points. Montpellier topped Boulogne 2-0 on Saturday to take advantage of Bordeaux's loss.

Marveaux scored the first goal off an assist from Briand, firing from outside the box with a left-footed shot to find the bottom-right corner.

Briand doubled the lead in the 17th when he converted a penalty to the bottom- right corner, and Rennes maintained the two-goal cushion into half.

Bangoura was set up by Jerome Leroy three minutes after the half, and Bangoura finished to the bottom left to put Rennes in control, until Bordeaux responded with two quick goals.

Yoan Gouffran scored off a header in the 64th and Wendel converted off a free kick in the 69th as Bordeaux responded with two goals in a five-minute stretch but couldn't finish its comeback.

Asamoah earned Leroy his second assist by accepting a pass and scoring to the top-right corner from outside the box in the 78th to seal Rennes' win.

Souleymane Camara and Victor Montano scored as Montpellier won at Boulogne to post its 14th victory and tighten the title race.

Also Saturday, Nassim Akrour and Daisuke Matsui each scored twice as Grenoble crushed Auxerre 5-0 for just its second win, Lorient topped PSG 3-0, Lens beat Le Mans 2-1, Nice tied Lille 1-1, and Sochaux tied Nancy 1-1.

On Sunday, St Etienne hosts Monaco, Toulouse hosts Lyon, and Marseille hosts Valenciennes.
