Niang's hat trick leads Marseille over Nancy

Marseille, France (Sports Network) - Mamadou Niang scored a hat trick to take over the Ligue 1 scoring lead, and Marseille defeated Nancy 3-1 at the Stade Velodrome on Sunday.

Niang scored in the 10th, 34th and 67th to increase his season total to 14. In Montbeliard, Michel Bastos matched Niang with a hat trick of his own as Lyon topped its Champions League win over Real Madrid with a 4-0 win over Sochaux.

Niang fired Marseille into the lead in the 10th when he turned a cross from Charles Kabore into the top-right corner with a header from the center of the box.

Nancy was level three minutes later after Issiar Dia set up Andre Luiz, who finished with a right-footed shot from close range.

Niang had Marseille back in front before the break, this time sending a left- footed shot off a cross from Taye Taiwo into the bottom-left corner. Niang put the match away midway through the second with a right-footed shot following a pass from Lucho Gonzalez.

Marseille won for the 13th time, and sits six points off the pace of Bordeaux.

Lyon, which stunned Real 1-0 on Tuesday in the first leg of their Round of 16 series, got three goals from Bastos in the first 26 minutes to all but wrap up its 13th win. Lisandro Lopez added the fourth goal in the 80th.

Also Sunday, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang scored in the 89th as Lille beat Rennes 2-1 to maintain third place. Lyon is one point back in fourth and Marseille is two points back in fifth.
