Manchester, England (Sports Network) - Patrick Vieira announced on Wednesday that his international career with France is over.
Vieira was capped 107 times for Les Bleus in his 13-year international career, but after being left off of this summer's World Cup team by manager Raymond Domenech, Vieira has decided to turn his full attention to club team Manchester City.
The 34-year-old moved to City in January from Inter Milan and he says that even if new France boss and former teammate Laurent Blanc wanted him to return, he would not.
"My target in the next few years is City," Vieira told the club's official website. "I want to do my best for the club, and I want to repay the trust of the manager."
France crashed out of the World Cup in the group stage after earning just one point from its three games, and they were also one of the biggest spectacles as well with striker Nicolas Anelka being sent home and the players refusing to practice in protest.
"I was there watching the games, hoping that France would do well. Obviously, they didn't," said Vieira.
"It was difficult not being with the team, but I didn't have the choice. It was a difficult moment. I think France are going through a tough period.
"We were expecting them to at least go through from the group to the first knockout round, but they didn't do it."
