Sochaux adds Maiga from Le Mans

Montbeliard, France (Sports Network) - Sochaux completed the signing of Mali international striker Modibo Maiga from Le Mans on Wednesday.

Maiga scored seven goals in 32 appearances for Le Mans last season, but after the club was relegated at the end of the campaign, team president Henri Lagarda knew the club would be unable to keep him.

"We knew we'd be unable to keep Modibo Maiga because of the financial consequences of the club being relegated into Ligue 2," Lagarda told the league's official website. "We refused an initial offer from Sochaux and now, after discussions, they have come up with an offer that is acceptable to us."

Maiga competed in the African Cup of Nations for Mali this past January, and he will now compete with fellow strikers Vaclav Sverkos and Brown Ideye for playing time.
