Lyon could unveil new signing Gourcuff

Fri 27th, August 2010

Lorient, France (Sports Network) - Lyon manager Claude Puel has yet to determine whether or not he will hand a start to the club's new signing, midfielder Yoann Gourcuff, on Saturday at Lorient.

Gourcuff joined Lyon this past week from Bordeaux in a deal that could reach $34 million, and his taste of action for his new side could come against his father Christian, who coaches Lorient.

Puel has already said that Gourcuff is eligible for selection in the starting 11, although he has yet to train with the team.

The 24-year-old Gourcuff helped to guide Bordeaux to the quarterfinals of the Champions League last season, but he is looking forward to a new beginning with Lyon.

"I'm motivated, and hope to blend into the squad and do as well as possible," told the league's website. "I hope to continue progressing. I've come to an ambitious club, and aim to do some great things with this team."

Gourcuff's arrival will be a welcome bit of good news for a Lyon side that is battling a rash of injuries, a list that includes defender Aly Cissokho, as well as Cris, Michel Bastos and last season's Ligue 1 Player of the Year, Lisandro Lopez.

Lyon has earned four points from its first three games, while Lorient is still searching for its first win of the season after two losses and a draw.

Toulouse is the only team in Ligue 1 with three wins from its first three games and they will visit Nancy, while promoted side Arles will be looking for its first points of the season when they host Rennes.

St Etienne and Lens square off at the Geoffroy Guichard Stadium, Montpellier visits Valenciennes and surprise package Caen, with seven points from three games, entertains Brest.

Auxerre qualified for the group stage of the Champions League this past week and they return to Ligue 1 for a match at Monaco on Sunday, while Lille hosts Nice, PSG travels to Sochaux and Bordeaux squares off with Marseille with both teams having lost two of their first three matches.
