Ballack doubtful for match against Wales

Monchengladbach, Germany (Sports Network) - German captain Michael Ballack is doubtful for Wednesday's World Cup qualifier against Wales after picking up a thigh injury in Saturday's 2-1 win over Russia.

Ballack, 32, missed Monday's training session to receive treatment. The Chelsea midfielder has endured a string of injuries over the past few years but doesn't seem to be in danger of missing significant time.

Bayer Leverkusen's Simon Rolfes or Werder Bremen's Torsten Frings will likely replace Ballack if he's unable to play Wednesday.

Germany leads Group 4 in European qualifying with seven points from four games. Wales is one point back thanks to two wins in its first three qualifiers.
