Bayern's Demichelis out with facial fractures

Munich, Germany (Sports Network) - Bayern Munich defender Martin Demichelis suffered three facial fractures playing for Argentina in a friendly against Germany on Wednesday and will be sidelined three weeks, the club announced on Thursday.

Demichelis sustained fractures to the eye socket, the cheekbone and the upper jaw, and underwent surgery Thursday morning.

Bayern chief medic Dr. Hans-Wilhelm Muller-Wohlfahrt believes Demichelis will be "fit enough for everything, including playing," in three weeks, according to the club's website.

The center back will miss at least four games, including next week's Champions League match at Fiorentina. Bayern leads the two-legged series 2-1.

Demichelis was hit in the face by Germany captain Michael Ballack's knee in a collision early in the second half of the international friendly.
