Munich, Germany (Sports Network) - Bayern Munich has signed veteran goalkeeper Tom Starke from Hoffenheim on a three-year contract.
The 31-year-old Starke, a former German youth international, was at Hoffenhiem from 2010-12. He will join Bayern as its backup with veteran Hans-Jorg Butt to retire after this season.
"We're delighted Tom Starke will be joining us for the new season," said FCB director of sport Christian Nerlinger. "He's an experienced ... professional who is calmness personified, and who perfectly fills the gap left by Jorg Butt's retirement.
"We're looking forward to Tom being here."
Germany international Manuel Neuer is Bayern's No. 1 goalkeeper and Starke was clear that he was happy to fill the No. 2 role.
"Football is a team sport, and I'm a part of the team," Starke said. "I'll place myself completely at the team's disposal, which is very important, even as a No. 2 goalkeeper. I believe we can achieve a lot next season, and I'm looking forward to it."
Bayern will play Chelsea in the Champions League final Saturday.
