Rice accepts bid for Texas Bowl

Houston, TX (Sports Network) - Rice University accepted a bid to the Texas Bowl on Wednesday.

The Owls finished the 2008 season with a 9-3 mark, including a 7-1 record in Conference USA.

It is the second bowl selection for the school in the last three seasons, following a New Orleans Bowl berth in 2006. Prior to that, Rice had not been invited to a bowl since 1961. Their opponent will be named later this week.

The Texas Bowl is currently in its third season. It pairs the third team in Conference USA against the seventh choice in the Big 12.
