Zurich, Switzerland (Sports Network) - The United States women finished 2009 on top of the FIFA/Coca-Cola Women's World Rankings for the second consecutive year, edging second-placed Germany by 61 points.
There was little movement in the rankings from September, but the winning margin for the USA was based mostly on a 1-0 friendly win over the Germans in October.
Brazil, Sweden and Korea DPR make up the rest of the top five respectively, while there was just one change in the top 10 from the last rankings, with France (9th, up 1) and Denmark (10th, down 1) trading places.
Hungary (34th, up 4) and Belgium (29th, up 3) made the biggest moves up the table, while Serbia (38th, down 4) suffered the biggest drop.
The Algarve Cup will take place in Portugal at the end of February and it features five of the top 10 teams in this month's rankings, including both the USA and Germany.
The next rankings will be published on March 12, 2010, and they promise more movement following the Algarve Cup.
