Zidane refuses to apologize to Materazzi

Milan, Italy (Sports Network) - Former France, Juventus and Real Madrid star Zinedine Zidane has refused an offer to apologize to Inter Milan defender Marco Materazzi over the head-butt incident that marred the 2006 World Cup Final.

Zidane, who spent five years in Serie A playing for Juventus, told El Pais: "If it was Kaka, a regular guy, a good guy, of course I would have apologized, but to this one (Materazzi), I cannot.

"Never, never. It would be to dishonor me. I'd rather die. There are evil people, and I don't even want to hear those guys speak.

"I apologize to football, to the fans, to the team. (But) if I ask him forgiveness, I lack respect to myself and to all those I hold dear with all my heart."
