Milan, Italy (Sports Network) - Inter Milan was able to extend its lead in the Serie A table on Wednesday despite being held to a 1-1 draw by Genoa.
The Nerazzuri will carry a seven-point lead into Saturday's showdown with third-place Juventus at the San Siro, and they are hoping that a battle with an old rival will be enough to snap them out of a poor run of form.
Inter has won just two of its last eight games in all competitions, but they have benefited from the struggles of the league's other top teams to maintain a cushion at the top.
Roma lost to Lazio 3-2 on Wednesday, while Juve was held to a 0-0 draw by last-place Empoli, missing out on a chance to gain ground on the top two teams.
Inter will be without Portuguese midfielder Pele due to suspension after he was sent off on Wednesday, while the club will get defender Marco Materazzi back from suspension.
Juventus striker David Trezeguet, who leads the team with 16 goals this season, is likely to return to the starting lineup after coming off the bench on Wednesday to help an anemic offense.
Roma will try to get back into the win column at home against Empoli and hope that Inter continues to drop points, while the race for fourth place continues with Fiorentina hosting Lazio and AC Milan visiting Torino.
The Viola own a four-point lead over the Rossoneri with both teams coming off losses on Wednesday.
Sampdoria and Udinese have also put themselves in position to make a run at a top-four spot.
Sampdoria knocked off AC Milan 2-1 on Wednesday to move to within one point of the Rossoneri. They will battle relegation-battling Cagliari while Udinese, who sits just one point back of Sampdoria, will host bottom-half side Livorno.
In other action on Saturday, Genoa travels to Palermo, Atalanta hosts Catania Calcio, Reggina plays host to Napoli and bottom-half sides Parma and Siena get together at Artemio Franchi Montepaschi Arena.
