De Rossi pens new Roma deal

Rome, Italy (Sports Network) - AS Roma have agreed a new four-year contract with Italy midfielder Daniele De Rossi.

De Rossi, 24, was one of the most consistent performers as the Giallorossi finished runners-up to Internazionale in Serie A last season.

However, he had courted speculation regarding his future after deciding to delay signing a new contract until after the European Championship.

"AS Roma and Daniele De Rossi announce having reached an agreement for the extension of the player's professional contract from today until June 30, 2012," read a club statement.

"The player will receive 7.2million euros during the 2008-09 season, 7.6 million euros for the 2009-10 season, and 8.1 million euros during the 2010-11 and 2011-12 seasons." Meanwhile, reports suggest De Rossi's midfield colleague, Alberto Aquilani, will also pledge his future to Roma in the coming days.
