Napoli eyes spot in top five

Fri 6th, November 2009

Catania, Italy (Sports Network) - Napoli enters the weekend in sixth place in the Serie A table, which is closer to where they feel they should be after a disappointing 12th-placed finish last campaign.

This season started with just one win in five league games, and it prompted the Napoli brass to part ways with manager Roberto Donadoni.

Walter Mazzarri was brought in to replace the former Italy international, and ever since his arrival, Napoli has made a steady climb back up the standings.

The team is currently riding a four-game unbeaten streak that includes road wins over Fiorentina and Juventus, and a 2-2 draw with AC Milan, demonstrating the quality in the Napoli side.

On Saturday, Mazzarri's men will look to extend their unbeaten run and possibly make their way into the top five when they travel to second-from-the- bottom Catania, which has lost its last three games.

Catania has only recorded one win in its first 11 games, and pressure is starting to mount on manager Gianluca Atzori, whose team is still just two points from safety.

However, Atzori will be without a number of key players for Saturday's match as defenders Matias Silvestre and Ciro Capuano are both out through suspension, while six other Catania players will miss the match because of injury problems.

Inter Milan is seven points clear at the top of the table and they host a struggling Roma side that resides in the bottom half, while second-placed Juventus visits Atalanta.

Fourth-placed AC Milan is unbeaten in its last six games in league play and they visit the capital to battle Lazio, while third-placed Sampdoria invades Cagliari and Fiorentina, which beat Debrecen, 5-2, in the Champions League on Wednesday, faces an Udinese side with one win in its last five games.

Bari and Livorno square off at San Nicola, Palermo visits Bologna, Genoa hosts Siena, and surprise package Parma entertains Chievo.
