Rome, Italy (Sports Network) - Serie A title hopefuls AC Milan and Roma will square off in the capital on Saturday in a game that features two of Italy's top three teams.
Milan enters the game four points back of leaders Inter Milan, while Roma is three adrift of its guests and looking to tighten up a leaky defense.
The Rossoneri moved ahead of the capital club on the strength of four successive wins in Serie A, including a 3-1 defeat of Atalanta last time out.
Roma, meanwhile, slipped to third as they gave up a pair of late goals and had to settle for a 2-2 draw with Napoli last weekend.
The Napoli result came just a few days after Roma was bounced from the Europa League by Panathinaikos, which scored three goals in a five-minute span at the end of the first half to eliminate the Italian side.
Defense may be the biggest worry for manager Claudio Ranieri, but the boss may be able to count on the return of striker Luca Toni, who has missed the past month with a calf problem.
Toni joined Roma on loan in January, and after a promising start in his return to Italy, suffered the injury and just recently returned to training with his team.
Midfielder David Pizarro is another Roma player who has struggled with a calf problem and could also be available for Saturday's game, while captain Francesco Totti appears set to miss out with another injury problem.
Roma has been quick to downplay its title chances with the club sitting seven points back of Inter, but Milan feels like a win on Saturday could propel them towards a serious title push.
"If we conquer three points against Roma we can really think about winning the championship," Milan center back Thiago Silva told La Gazzetta dello Sport.
Milan faces a big game on Saturday but they will also have an eye towards Wednesday's return leg at Old Trafford against Manchester United in the Champions League.
The Italian side goes to England trailing 3-2 after the first leg at the San Siro, and although striker Alexandre Pato looks set to miss this weekend's match, the club is hopeful that he will be ready for Wednesday.
Inter Milan tries to stay on top of the league with a win against Genoa on Sunday, while Saturday's other match features mid-table Fiorentina hosting Juventus.
Palermo is fourth in the table and they host relegation-battling Livorno, while Udinese visits Atalanta in an important relegation contest.
Bari squares off with Chievo, Napoli travels to Bologna, Catania faces Cagliari, Lazio invades Sampdoria and Siena hosts Parma.
