Seedorf's late goal leads AC Milan over Chievo

Milan, Italy (Sports Network) - Substitute Clarence Seedorf scored in injury time and AC Milan edged Chievo 1-0 on Sunday at the San Siro to close within one point of Inter Milan for first place in Italy's Serie A.

Seedorf entered the match in the 79th minute and with just seconds left in the match, took a pass from Massimo Ambrosini and beat Chievo goalkeeper Stefano Sorrentino to the upper-left corner.

Inter was upset by Catania 3-1 on Friday, and AC Milan took advantage to close the gap on its city rivals with 10 games left in the season.

AC Milan bounced back from its 4-0 loss to Manchester United earlier this week that eliminated it from the Champions League.

David Beckham returned to the lineup against Chievo and suffered a cut to his face when Chievo's Giampiero Pinzi kicked him in the face, but he played the entire match.

Inter Milan visits Chelsea on Tuesday for the second leg of their Round of 16 series. Inter won the first leg 2-1 in Italy.

Marco Rossi scored the match-winner in Genoa's 5-3 win over Cagliari, Sergio Almiron and Edgar Alvarez scored in the second half to lead Bari over Lazio 2-0, and Valeri Bojinov scored to lead Parma over Atalanta 1-0.
