Milan, Italy (Sports Network) - Long-serving Inter Milan goalkeeper Francesco Toldo has decided to retire with immediate effect.
The 38-year-old former Italy international had been at Inter since 2001 but found first-team opportunities limited behind first-choice keeper Julio Cesar in recent seasons.
Toldo made almost 500 Serie A appearances and won 28 caps for the Azzurri.
"It will be a long holiday this year because I will stop playing. This is the first time I have said it officially and I'm quite emotional because it has been my job for 20 years," he told the club's official website.
The former AC Milan and Fiorentina keeper will continue working with Inter as a club ambassador.
