Eriksson set for Mexico post

Mexico City, Mexico (Sports Network) - Manchester City coach Sven-Goran Eriksson remains the favorite to become Mexico's new national team coach.

Mexican Football Federation president Justino Compean insists the former England boss is on the verge of accepting the post.

"We only seriously considered (Luiz Felipe) Scolari and Eriksson. We have sorted out the details with Eriksson and we are about to confirm him," he said.

"We are expecting to reveal it (the new coach's name) on June 2, so he can be formally unveiled on the third. It is about to be completed, but as long as we don't have anything signed we cannot reveal anything.

"We have already talked to the directors and convinced the ones who initially disagreed. Here we take unanimous decisions and the name will be accepted by everyone."

Meanwhile, Nery Castillo's agent insists his client is not about to return to Mexico.

The 23-year-old striker moved to Eastlands on a one-year loan deal from Shakhtar Donetsk in January but has been linked with a permanent switch to Mexican side Guadalajara.

However, Juan Carlos Padilla said: "I have not talked to any Guadalajara director. I'm sure Nery will complete his spell in Europe.

"He is an important player in an important team, so I have to say that, at least at this moment, it is a definitive 'no'.

"Even though it has been a difficult year for Nery, we cannot think about going back.

"When players succeed in football it is because they know how to step up. Next season, he will succeed. Then we'll see if he can play in Mexico, but it will happen in five to nine years."
