Benfica, Portugal (Sports Network) - Oscar Cardozo scored his Portuguese Liga- high 12th goal and unbeaten Benfica maintained its cushion atop the table over fellow unbeaten FC Porto with a 3-1 win Sunday over Gil Vicente.
Cardozo opened the scoring after 27 minutes and, after Rodrigo Galo leveled it at 1-1 after 40 minutes, Rodrigo and Pablo Aimar scored consecutive goals just one minute apart midway through the second half for Benfica.
Benfica won for the 13th time against three draws in 16 league games, and sits two points above second-place FC Porto.
Joao Moutinho's 46th-minute goal turned out to be the game-winner for Porto as it secured its 12th win against four ties in 16 matches with a 3-1 win over Guimaraes on Sunday. Rolando and James Rodriguez also scored for FC Porto.
Also Sunday, Ferreira Douglas and Helder Barbosa scored two minutes apart in the first half as Braga downed Rio Ave 2-1, Manuel Jose Vieira scored twice in the last six minutes of normal time as Pacos Ferreira edged Setubal 2-1, and Dejan Skolnik and Joao Moreno scored as Nacional beat Feirense 2-0.
Academica and Uniao Leiria tied 0-0 Friday to open the week's action, Leocisio Sami and Danilo Dias scored as Maritimo defeated Beira-Mar 2-1 on Saturday and Sporting Lisbon saw its winless streak extended to four games after being held to a 0-0 draw at Olhanense on Monday.
