Motherwell, Scotland (Sports Network) - It has been nearly 300 minutes since Motherwell has scored a goal in league play, and the team will try to snap that streak on Saturday at home against Hibernian.
Mark McGhee's Motherwell put together a string of four wins in five games from late September until the beginning of November, however they have since taken just one point from three matches, dropping the team from the top four into seventh place.
Last Saturday's 1-0 loss at Falkirk had to be especially frustrating for the Motherwell boss, who had to watch his team squander a number of good scoring chances and come away with no points against a weaker team.
"I'm not going to harp on about the chances because they mean nothing if you don't take them," McGhee told the club's official website following the game. "They were the better team on the day, regardless of chances we had before they scored. They just about edged it."
While McGhee was in no mood to talk about his team's failures to finish, he did shed some light on what he feels his squad must do to improve its situation.
"We'll be working hard on training to rectify the goals to chances ratio," he said. "But it's not just a case of standing strikers in front of goal and throwing balls at them, it's about movement amongst other things.
"Even in the last fifteen minutes when we really were going for it we had two or three chances to get the early ball into the box and never took them. So it's not just about the strikers and taking chances, it's about providing good service."
Hibernian is also a team looking to reverse some recent results, with Hibs failing to register a win in its last six games. The club has not found the net on a regular basis either, but they have had even more trouble keeping the ball out of their own goal.
Hibs has yielded the second most goals in the league through 14 games, conceding 21, and they have given up an average of two goals over their last five contests, which could be the cure for what ails the struggling Motherwell attack.
League-leaders Celtic look set to pick up three more points when the Hoops visit second-from-the-bottom St Mirren while second-place Rangers faces a tougher test with a home contest against Aberdeen. Hearts, which hosts Falkirk on Saturday, sits in third place just one point ahead of Dundee United, which takes on a Hamilton side that has not won in nine games. The other match of the weekend features a Kilmarnock side that just snapped a four-game losing skid taking on Inverness.
