St. Johnstone signs striker Parkin

Perth, Scotland (Sports Network) - St. Johnstone has completed the signing of experienced striker Sam Parkin on a two-year contract.

The 29-year-old spent last season with Walsall, but was allowed to leave the Saddlers after scoring three times in 27 appearances.

Former Chelsea trainee Parkin made his name during a three-year stay with Swindon Town, but he has since struggled to make his mark at Ipswich Town and Luton Town.

While with Swindon Parkin scored 73 goals in 142 appearances in all competitions, having moved to the County Ground on a free transfer in the summer of 2002.

Parkin's arrival at McDiarmid Park comes shortly after striker Kenny Deuchar left the club to join Falkirk, who were relegated from the SPL at the end of last season.
