Celtic goes for 12th straight win vs. St. Mirren

Paisley, Scotland (Sports Network) - There seems to be no stopping Celtic at the moment.

The Hoops have won 11-straight league games to improve to 56 points on the season and overtake Rangers for first place in the Scottish Premier League. They will go for their 12th win in a row Saturday when they face St. Mirren at St. Mirren Park.

Celtic's defense has been a major strong point during this resurgence. The Glasgow club has conceded just four goals over its 11-game winning streak, keeping seven clean sheets.

St. Mirren, meanwhile, has experienced some indifferent form this term. The Saints currently occupy eight place in the Scottish top flight, two points shy of claiming a spot in the playoffs.

Some help has arrived though, as St. Mirren announced the signing of Dougie Imrie from First Division side Hamilton Accies on Friday. Imrie, who can play in the midfield or up front, could be set to make his debut for the club Saturday.

"It's good to be here and I'm raring to go," Imrie said upon his arrival to Paisley. "Everyone wants to be in the SPL and I'm no different. I'm hoping to get off to a good start against Celtic."

Should Celtic drop points in the early fixture, Rangers will hope to make up some ground on their city rivals as they host Aberdeen later on Saturday. The Ibrox outfit trails Celtic in the table by two points.

In 49 total league meetings between the two clubs, Rangers have notched 33 wins while Aberdeen has come out on top just five times.

Elsewhere Saturday, Kilmarnock looks to hand Dunfermline its sixth-straight loss when the two sides meet at Rugby Park, Hearts looks to extend its unbeaten streak to six games when it heads to Inverness, Motherwell hopes to snap a three-game losing skid when it travels to Dundee United, and Hibernian aims to secure its second-straight win when it hosts St. Johnstone.
