Madrid, Spain (Sports Network) - Abdoulay Konko and Joaquin Sanchez scored twice for their respective clubs as the Spanish La Liga opened its 2010-11 campaign with three fixtures on Saturday.
Konko's two goals helped Sevilla top Levante, 4-1, Sanchez' brace led Valencia past Malaga, 3-1, and Athletic Bilbao edged Hercules, 1-0.
The promoted Levante actually scored the game's first goal against Sevilla when Ruben Suarez converted a penalty kick in the 10th minute. But defender Konko got the equalizer just two minutes later when he knocked home a rebound.
Alvaro Negredo gave Sevilla the lead just before the half-hour mark with another penalty-kick goal before Konko and Renato scored second-half goals to close out the scoring.
Valencia went ahead early and late in its opener, with Aritz Aduriz heading home a Ever Banega corner kick in the ninth minute.
Sebastian Fernandez equalized just before the break, but Sanchez scored a brace in the final 20 minutes to secure the win.
Bilbao's Fernando Llorente scored on a header just after the interval to help his club edge Hercules, 1-0.
The rest of the La Liga clubs square off on Sunday and Monday, with heavyweights Barcelona and Real Madrid traveling to Racing Santander and Mallorca to highlight six games on Sunday.
