Roger Federer almost makes the feat during 2006 and 2007. In both occasions he lost the French open in Roland Garros against Rafael Nadal. Being a clay court, Roland Garros remarks Nadal Strengths and making it more difficult for Federer who rules the hard courts.
Rafael Nadal is also the second player near to win a Grand Slam. Ironically he lost the Australian Open against Federer in 2009, who is the actual defending champion. This year, Nadal will try to win the tournament; if he can reach his goal, he will be winning four consecutive tournaments but is not considered a Grand Slam.
The International Tennis Federation (ITF) redefined the Grand Slam in 1982 as winning four titles on a streak that could be spanned on 2 consecutive years. But due to controversy, once again is winning all four slams in a single calendar year.
For the former champion and two times Grand Slam winner Rod Laver; Nadal is doing a great effort, but if he wins this coming tournament he will be winning four consecutive tournaments and not a Grand Slam as it was setup.
However, if Nadal makes it this coming Australian Open, he will be the first on winning a Non-Calendar year Grand Slam on Male Singles. This feat has been achieved by Martina Navratilova (1983-84), Steffi Graf (1993-94) and Serena Williams (2002-03) in Women Singles.
To this day, only two players have achieved the Grand Slam in male singles; Don Budge in 1938 and Rod Laver in 1962 and 1969. In women singles, three players won the Grand Slam too; Maureen Connolly Brinker 1953, Margaret Court 1970 and Steffi Graf in 1988.

Where the players come to play and STAY.
