2011 finish with Novak Djokovic as the tennis player number 1 of the world, after a successful season

The Serb is at the top, and will remain there for a while; however, in the last days of the ATP tournaments, many other players chose to let their fangs and claws out, could Djokovic hold the precious rank one more season? Or may others will take his place; these are some of the possible surprises this coming season could bring to all of us who enjoy this wonderful sport. These are just a few 2012 Predictions.

With the best season of his life career until now, Novak Djokovic starts the 2012 as the number 1 player, but keeping this title could be hard to keep. On the final days of the 2011, Djokovic slip a bit on London and the Davis Cup mostly due to a shoulder injure and confronting strong opponents like Roger Federer. For 2012 I suspect he will be winning a couple of slams more to add to his collection, however, he may get down to #2.

Rafael Nadal lose some of his magic on 2011 season, though he still being a feared opponent, and may recover his strength for this coming year, I expect that he will keep the king crown of the clay court at least one year more, because the only way for him to hold off is get an injure; so its possible that he claim Roland Garros title again. Should Nadal win his seventh title at France, he will consolidate his mastery over Clay, surpassing Bjorn Borg for most French Open titles.

Federer showed a great strength revival in London, and show us that he still have power to win a few Slams' more, however, the Swiss Maestro could have it a bit difficult this year, mostly because those other skilled players in the top ten are gathering more resilience with each game they play. He still have power, but isn't going to get stronger. Federer only won a Slam in 2011; so you may expect one more Slam or none at all in the 2012 season.

Andy Murray has showed the talent and the strength to play against any big opponent he face, but it seems that he lacks the will power to achieve his true goal when the situation demands it. For me is a waste of talent and efforts just to keep in the higher ranks without having won at least one slam. I even dare to compare Andy Murray with Caroline Wozniacki, holding a position that seems totally undeserved because the lack of Slam titles... Only difference is that Wozniacki is number one and Murray stills in fourth. However, If Murray improves that attitude he could win a Slam, maybe Australian Open or Wimbledon.

Following the big four very closely are David Ferrer, and Jo-Wilfried Tsonga. I really can't visualize the Spaniard as a possible Slam winner; it's true that he still has some skill to give the fight; he wouldn't sustain his current position, at least not for too long and will be surpassed by Tsonga very early in the season. His position may be dancing around the top 15 ranks during the 2012.

The French is one of those potential top 4, but it won't happen, at least not so soon. We have seen how he has taken away the victory of the hands of all of the current top guys in many occasions, and I believe he has the skills and the will to reach a higher position; I dare to say that he could dethrone Murray from his comfy rank by the end of the season. By 2012 Tsonga possibly will reach some Grand Slam semi-finals, but he won't be winning any at all.
