Ginepri scored a 6-1, 6-1 victory over Vincent Spadea, while Young beat Bobby Reynolds, 6-3, 6-4 in another all-American matchup on the hardcourts at the sprawling Indian Wells Tennis Garden.
A pair of Swedes advanced, as Jonas Bjorkman beat Italian Filippo Volandri 6-3, 7-6 (7-5) and Robin Soderling subdued Frenchman Sebastien Grosjean 6-3, 6-3.
Korean Hyung-Taik Lee leveled Frenchman Michael Llodra 6-2, 6-3, while Israeli Dudi Sela drove out oft-injured German Nicolas Kiefer 6-4, 6-7 (4-7), 6-3.

Colombian qualifier Santiago Giraldo topped Austrian Werner Eschauer, 7-6 (7-5), 6-4, and was rewarded a match with second seed Rafael Nadal.
Other Day-1 wins came for Belgian Olivier Rochus, Amnerican Wayne Odesnik, Switzerland's Stanislas Wawrinka, Robin Haase of the Netherlands, Brazil's Xavier Malisse, Russian Dmitry Tursunov, Frenchman Marc Gicquel and Italian Fabio Fognini.
French Open stalwart Nadal defeated Australian Open champion Djokovic in last year's Indian Wells finale. The top seed here is three-time winner Roger Federer, and two-time Indian Wells champion Lleyton Hewitt is also part of the 96-player field at this prestigious 11-day tournament.
This week's top seeds are the reigning U.S. Open and Wimbledon titlist Federer, Nadal, Djokovic, Nikolay Davydenko, David Ferrer and surging Andy Roddick, who is fresh off his title in Dubai, where Federer, Nadal and Djokovic were all in attendance.
