Houston, TX (Sports Network) - Spaniard Marcel Granollers-Pujol downed top- seeded American James Blake in the final of the $436,000 U.S. Men's Clay Court Championships.
Granollers-Pujol, appearing in his first-ever ATP tour final, had six double faults, but still held on for a 6-4, 1-6, 7-5 victory over Blake at River Oaks Country Club on Sunday to claim the $68,800 prize.
The 28-year-old Blake, who has claimed 10 singles title during his career, has yet to capture a title on clay courts.
Granollers-Pujol, the seventh seed, had just one ace, but was successful on 60 percent of his first serves and emerged victorious in two hours, 12 minutes.
With the loss, Blake's record on clay evened at 35-35. The American is 16-8 in eight appearances at this tournament, including a semifinal appearance last year.
