Davydenko knocks out Federer in London

Sat 28th, November 2009

London, England (Sports Network) - Nikolay Davydenko was the last man to reach the semifinals of the ATP World Finals with his victory Friday over Robin Soderling, and the Russian made the most of his chance by knocking off world No. 1 Roger Federer in Saturday's semifinals.

Davydenko notched a 6-2, 4-6, 7-5 victory over the Swiss superstar to reach the final of the season-ending tournament for the second straight year. He lost last year's title match to Novak Djokovic when the tournament was contested in Shanghai.

On Sunday, he'll face either Soderling or U.S. Open champ Juan Martin del Potro for this year's crown.

Davydenko had lost each of his previous 12 meetings with Federer, but got the better of the 15-time Grand Slam champ on Saturday.

The Russian star will try for his 19th career title on Sunday and his fifth this year. He has won each of his previous four finals in 2009, winning at Hamburg, Umag, Kuala Lumpur and Shanghai.
