Melzer, Troicki win Zagreb openers

Zagreb, Croatia (Sports Network) - Third-seeded Jurgen Melzer of Austria and fourth-seeded Viktor Troicki of Serbia were among Monday's first-round winners at the Zagreb Indoors tennis event.

Melzer handled German Daniel Brands 6-4, 6-3, while Troicki trounced fading German Rainer Schuettler 6-3, 6-2 on the hardcourts at Dom Sportova.

An upset occurred when Croatian wild card Ivan Dodig downed eighth-seeded Kazakhstani Evgeny Korolev 7-6 (11-9), 6-4.

Additional Day-1 wins came for Kazakhstan's Mikhail Kukushkin, Belgian Olivier Rochus and Ukrainian Illya Marchenko.

This week's top seeds are Croatian favorites Marin Cilic and Ivan Ljubicic. Cilic is the reigning champion, having beaten Mario Ancic in last year's all- Croatian final here. The veteran Ljubicic was the inaugural Zagreb winner in 2006.
