Johannesburg, South Africa (Sports Network) - Fifth-seeded American Rajeev Ram was among Monday's first-round winners at the $500,000 SA Tennis Open.

Ram came from behind to beat South African wild card Rik De Voest 6-7 (3-7), 6-3, 6-3 on a rain-interrupted Day 1 at Montecasino.

Meanwhile, eighth-seeded Frenchman Stephane Robert overcame American Brendan Evans 3-6, 6-2, 6-2, Slovenian Blaz Kavcic defeated France's Thierry Ascione 1-6, 7-5, 6-3 and Frenchman Laurent Recouderc overcame Belgian Steve Darcis 3-6, 6-3, 6-4 on the hardcourts here.

This week's top seeds are Frenchman Gael Monfils and Spaniard David Ferrer.

Last year's inaugural Johannesburg champion, Jo-Wilfried Tsonga, is not on hand to defend his title this year. Tsonga, a semifinalist at the Australian Open last week, beat Jeremy Chardy in last year's all-French finale here.
