Santiago, Chile (Sports Network) - Brazil's Thomaz Bellucci defeated Argentina's Juan Monaco to win the $450,000 Movistar Open tennis event on Sunday.
The third-seeded Bellucci downed the second-seeded Monaco 6-2, 0-6, 6-4 in just over two hours for his second career ATP title. He last won a title at Gstaad last year.
"I played better than him in the first set. In the second set I didn't start very well and he took advantage," Bellucci said. "He then started playing better. In the third set I was able to play my game again and stay calm in the decisive moments to win the title."
Monaco, who was the runner-up here in 2008 as he lost to Fernando Gonzalez, was looking for his fourth career title. All of his title match wins came in 2007.
"I'm upset about the loss but I want to congratulate Thomaz; he had an excellent week and deserved to win the title," Monaco said.
Bellucci collected $68,450 for his win in his first-ever match against Monaco.
