Lopez ends lengthy title drought

Sun 7th, February 2010

Johannesburg, South Africa (Sports Network) - Feliciano Lopez of Spain beat France's Stephane Robert in Sunday's final at the SA Tennis Open.

Lopez, the third seed, defeated Robert 7-5, 6-1 in just over an hour to win his second career ATP singles title and first since capturing the Vienna crown in October 2004.

"I hope that this title now will help me to have more confidence in my game, to believe more in myself, so I can get more titles in my career," said Lopez.

The Spaniard rallied from a set down in the semifinals to oust top-seeded Frenchman Gael Monfils in a third set tie-break on Saturday.

Lopez took home $75,700 for the win.

The eighth-seeded Robert was making his first appearance in an ATP final.

"I didn't do anything special this week. Last week, last month, the past couple of months I was playing really good tennis," Robert said of competing in his first final.
