Stockholm, Sweden (Sports Network) - A doubles tandem of David Nalbandian and Horacio Zeballos notched a big win on Saturday, as visiting Argentina grabbed a 2-1 lead over Sweden in their first-round best-of-five Davis Cup battle.
Nalbandian and Zeballos doused a Swedish duo of Robin Soderling and Robert Lindstedt 6-2, 7-6 (7-4), 7-6 (7-5) at Kungliga Tennis Hall.
The winner will be decided in Sunday's reverse singles here, when Soderling meets Leonardo Mayer and Swede Joachim Johansson takes on Eduardo Schwank.
In Friday's opening singles here, the French Open runner-up Soderling handled Schwank 6-1, 7-6 (7-0), 7-5 before Mayer pulled Argentina even with a 5-7, 6-3, 7-5, 6-4 victory over the 6-foot-6 slugger Johansson. Mayer was initially scheduled to play doubles on Saturday, but was replaced in the lineup by the former Wimbledon runner-up Nalbandian.
Former Swedish star Thomas Enqvist is leading the home team this week, while Tito Vazquez captains Argentina on the indoor hardcourt here.
Sweden owns seven Davis Cup titles, while Argentina has never hoisted the coveted chalice.
The winner here will face either Russia or India in the quarterfinals in July.
