Bree, Belgium (Sports Network) - The visiting Czech Republic got a doubles victory from Tomas Berdych and Radek Stepanek on Saturday, as the Czechs secured a spot in July's Davis Cup quarterfinals by virtue of an unassailable 3-0 lead over the host Belgians.
Berdych and Stepanek, who both won singles matches here on Friday to give the Czechs a commanding 2-0 advantage, blew past a Belgian tandem of Steve Darcis and Olivier Rochus 7-6 (7-0), 6-0, 6-3 in 1 hour, 56 minutes on an indoor hardcourt at Bree's Expodroom on Day 2. The Czechs originally had Lukas Dlouhy and Jan Hajek scheduled to play the doubles.
On Friday, Berdych blitzed Rochus 6-3, 6-0, 6-4 and Stepanek handled Xavier Malisse 6-2, 6-4, 7-6 (7-3), as the Czechs have swept the first nine sets here.
Team Czech Republic, which was last year's Davis Cup runner-up to mighty Spain, is captained by Jaroslav Navratil, while Belgium is guided by Reginald Willems.
The Czechs, who won the Davis Cup as Czechoslovakia behind the great Ivan Lendl 30 years ago, are now 8-3 all-time against the Belgians.
The Czech Republic will meet the Chile-Israel winner in the round of eight.
